The idea of who an American is, has been changing overtime. In the 1970s an American family could be defined as a family that is completely white, while in present day an American family is everyone from every nation made of immigrants that is any ethnicity or color of skin. As American society and mindset changes the idea of race and America as a whole changes as well.
