MULTIRACIAL
The image below shows the most common words that are found when searching the word "multiracial" on the internet.
7 million people in the United States consider themselves multiracial, half of them are under the age of 18. This means that the number of multiracial individuals is growing and expanding in modern day America. Because this is a growing number there are misunderstandings/misinterpretations in a society. An individual his/herself might feel that if they are too in touch with one side of the family, the other one might reject them. There are conflicts within families of multiracial children, where one child might be favored more than another based on the color of their skin. Siblings might fight because of facial features. The family cannot all together never talk about race, because then some children might not know how to deal with the racism that happens outside of their home. Although racism is common towards multiracial individuals, it is a growing number that is yet to be better understood overall by our society (Multiracial Families).

Multiracial families and individuals although cause controversy today, are much better accepted than in the 1970s. The census didn't even have the option to identify oneself in more than one race until 2000 and exhibited high growth in 2010. The white and black category increased by 134% and the white and Asian 87% since the year 2000 (United States Census Bureau). Although different media may publish more information about families of multiple complexions, some media-such as the cheerios commercial-still create high controversy.
